  • Will it cost me just to get an estimate?
    Not at all! We know how stressful it can be to simply begin a project, regardless of size. Having the ability to discuss one's vision freely with a professional, unaccompanied by extra fees, can really help relieve financial stress. Therefore, we pride ourselves in our ability to provide our customers with a complementary consultation and estimate.
  • Can I negotiate my estimated job cost?
    As a father and owner of a small, family business, Jim understands firsthand the stresses of significant financial decisions. When composing estimates for his clients, Jim does his absolute best to keep costs affordable. Therefore, because costs are already adjusted accordingly, we do not negotiate any of our prices.
  • What is the purpose of Attachment I?
    This document is simply a list of our standard terms and conditions, which are utilized for each and every project, and not all sections may apply to yours. If you have any question regarding whether or not a section pertains to you, contact us! It's always important to know what you are signing before you sign it. We are always open to your questions.
  • Why do I have to give a down payment and when is it due?
    The purpose of a down payment is to secure the tentative date of your project. Therefore, the down payment is due prior to the commencement of work.
  • How long will it take to complete my job?
    Due to other factors, such as subcontractor schedules and weather conditions, we aren't able to confirm timelines for jobs. However, we always do our best to give estimated completion times to our clients.
  • Why is my project's start date "tentative"?"
    There are so many different aspects that must be considered when starting a construction project including, but not limited to: the timelines of subcontractors, weather conditions, jobs in progress, or personal complications brought by the client/subcontractor/contractor. Therefore, almost all dates are tentative to make our clients aware that any given date may be subject to change.
  • Do I have to pick out my own appliances? If so, when and where do I order them?"
    Yes, you will need to pick out and purchase your own appliances. However, we are always happy to provide recommendations or suggestions! Appliances may need to be purchased prior or throughout your project, depending on the job. Always take the time to discuss a plan with your contractor to figure out the best way to go about purchasing your applicances.
  • How do payments work?
    You will be invoiced for portions of your estimate periodically throughout the duration of the job. Payments will be due on the date invoiced.
  • Can I pay with a debit/credit card? If I can, how do I know it's safe? "
    Yes, Higgs Construction now takes payments through Square. Square is a secure platform with "end-to-end encryption", protecting your money and peace of mind. From https://squareup.com/us/en/security: Card processing systems adhere to the PCI Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS), Level 1. Web development follows industry-standard secure coding guidelines, such as those recommended by OWASP. Security updates and patches are installed on servers and equipment in a timely fashion. Square uses industry-standard cryptographic protocols and message formats (such as SSL/TLS and PGP) when transferring data. Square prohibits storage of card numbers, magnetic-stripe data, and security codes on client devices.
